All Tours Peru: Your Ultimate Travel Guide and FAQ

Welcome to the All Tours Peru FAQ page! Here you'll find answers to the most common questions about traveling to Peru, including information on passports, visas, transportation, food, and much more. If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact us directly. Enjoy your adventure with All Tours Peru!

Passport

All tourism businesses in Peru (hotels, travel agencies, etc.) can exempt foreign travelers from the 18% tax (IGV) if they present a copy of their passport along with the arrival and departure dates, as long as they stay less than 60 days in the country. If you do not agree or if your stay exceeds 60 days, we are obliged to charge you the tax, as the prices on our website do not include taxes.

If you have booked with us and later change your passport, please inform us so we can make the necessary adjustments. Additionally, bring both your old and new passports during your trip to Peru to avoid any inconveniences, as some tickets may have been issued with the information from your previous passport.

Visa

If you are a citizen of the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or Western Europe, you do not need a visa to enter Peru. Upon arrival, you will receive a tourist visa that will allow you to stay in the country for up to 183 days per calendar year. You must have a valid passport with at least one available page for the entry stamp.

Immigration authorities may ask to see your travel documents to verify your plans after your stay in Peru. If you are unsure whether you need a visa, we recommend contacting the Peruvian consulate or embassy in your country for more detailed information.

Payments and Cancellations

At this moment, your payment has been declined, and we apologize for the inconvenience. Please try to make the payment again and ensure that your payment information is correct. Additionally, inform your bank that you wish to make a purchase from a Peruvian company, as they sometimes reject such payments for security reasons.

Weather in Peru

Peru has three main regions: the coast, the Andes, and the jungle. Each region has a different climate, so it’s essential to know the best times to visit the most popular tourist destinations in Peru.

The Coast (Lima): Summer in Lima is from December to April, and this is the ideal time to visit, as you can enjoy sunny days almost every day.

The Andes (Cusco): The dry season in the Andes is from April to September/early October, which is perfect for various hikes, as there is much less rain.

The Jungle: You can't escape the high humidity in the jungle, and you should be aware of the differences between the low water and high water seasons, as this significantly impacts your experience.

Money

The local currency in Peru is the Sol (PEN). To check the current exchange rate between the dollar and the sol, click [here]. Most local businesses do not accept dollars, preferring soles instead. However, this is not a problem as there are ATMs, currency exchange houses, and official money changers on the streets. If you have your credit card with you, it should not be an issue since almost all businesses accept card payments (at least in the more modern parts of the cities you will visit). Be sure to ask if they charge an extra fee, as some businesses add the Visa/MasterCard commission to the price.

In major cities in Peru, such as Lima, Cusco, or Arequipa, you can exchange money at official currency exchange houses or with street money changers, known as "cambistas." They wear vests with dollar signs or the word "cambio" written on them. Before exchanging your money, we recommend checking the exchange rates online first and asking 2 or 3 different cambistas or exchange houses to compare rates. You can also exchange money at banks, but their rates are significantly lower.

Health

While not mandatory, it is recommended to get vaccinated against Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and Yellow Fever. The Yellow Fever vaccine is especially advised if you plan to travel to jungle areas.

Transportation

We definitely recommend taking a taxi from the airport to your accommodation. In Lima, Jorge Chávez International Airport is about 40 minutes from Miraflores, the most popular neighborhood for tourists visiting Lima. Depending on traffic, it can take up to 2 hours. A taxi for this route will cost between S/ 45 and 70, again depending on traffic. Try to negotiate with the taxi drivers, as they are likely to give a higher price initially.

In Cusco, a taxi from the airport to the city center or San Blas will cost around S/ 12-25, but you should not pay more than that. If you are looking for a cheaper option, simply exit the airport on the right side (instead of the left side where all the taxi drivers wait). Leave the airport and take a taxi outside the official airport area. Here you can get taxis for S/ 8-12.

If you want to request a taxi via an app during your stay in Lima, we recommend Uber or Cabify.

In our experience, the most reliable airline for domestic destinations is LATAM. A cheaper airline that entered the market in 2019 is SKY, which is also a good option.

Regarding buses, there are several reliable companies with comfortable seats. One of the best companies operating in Peru is Cruz del Sur. However, Peru is a large country, so many people prefer to fly.

Food & Drinks

Peru has won several international awards, such as the “World's Leading Culinary Destination.” Lima has built a reputation as a culinary highlight in South America, with two restaurants, Central and Maido, included in the top 10 of the World's 50 Best Restaurants and ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the 50 Best Restaurants in Latin America.

For more information, we invite you to read our post on The Best Food to Try in Peru and Typical Peruvian Drinks.

Electricity

Generally, the plugs are the same as in North America (two flat prongs), but sometimes they are like in Europe (two round prongs) or even two flat prongs and one round prong. We recommend bringing an adapter for round prongs as well, just to be safe.
