Rainbow Mountain, also known as Vinicunca, is located at an altitude of 5,200 meters (17,060 feet) above sea level.
The best time to visit this natural wonder is from May to October. During these months, the skies are clear, there is minimal rainfall, and Rainbow Mountain displays its most vibrant colors.
The hike is of moderate difficulty. It involves a 3 km (1.86 miles) trek that takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes at a slow pace. Be prepared for the high altitude, which can make the hike more challenging.
Children can visit Rainbow Mountain, but acclimatization and careful attention are crucial. Children may initially be enthusiastic, but the altitude and physical exertion can affect them. Some parents opt to rent horses for their children to ensure they do not encounter any issues.
It is recommended to spend at least 2 days acclimatizing in Cusco before attempting the hike. If you are accustomed to high altitudes or regularly engage in trekking activities, you might not need as much acclimatization time.
